Following her decision to support the ruling All People Congress (APC) party in Parliament on the extension of the Public State of Emergency, the Minority Leader in Parliament Dr. Bernadette Lahai will face “strong disciplinary action” by the Sierra Leone People Party (SLPP)
Speaking on National Television, the SLPP Publicity Secretary said that what happened in Parliament is a complete violation of the party principles.
Hon Phillip Tondeh described the action of his Parties members as misrepresentation which according to him is tantamount to corruption.
He said that the party as well as the people of Sierra Leone is disappointed at the state of affairs of their members of Parliament in which they will undermining themselves, adding that some of them are big time sell out.
Also sources closed to the Party Executive said that the Party will be writing a letter to Speaker of Parliament to inform that, Dr. Bernadette Lahai is no longer a member of the SLPP and therefore should vacate her seat, citing section 77K of the 1991 constitution.
It could be recalled that Dr. Bernedette Lahai said openly in the well of Parliament that although her part policy was for them not to vote for the extension of the State of Emergency but that she urged her collegues to look at the State of Emergency from the national lenses
Meanwhile observers are saying that this could be added to the pile of matters in the Supreme Court on the internal rancor of the opposition.
