Global Group Grafton Polio School

As a way of giving back to the community, Global Group of Companies (GGC) and Mariatu Kargbo Foundation have donated building materials to the Maria Polio School at Grafton for the construction of the school as well as learning equipment worth millions of Leones.

The donation was made on Thursday 19th January, 2017 at the school grounds, Grafton East of Freetown.

GGC Chief Executive Officer, Madam Zhang Jinling said that Global Group of Companies won the contract to construct the Sewa Grounds Multi-Purpose Market, that they believe that disability is not inability and encouraged the beneficiaries to forget about what has happened to them by focusing on the bright future underscoring, “let us recognize them for their abilities not disability as the only disability in life is bad attitude.”

Madam Zhang stated that this is the first donation made by GGC to the school and assured of more support to improve the quality of education in the country.

Chairman of Promotion Committee of and Unification Sierra Leone, Li Luming said Sierra Leone is their second home, the reason they want to promote quality education and a condusive learning environment for the children that would enable them concentrate on their studies to produce good results.

He expressed optimism for a great and prosperous Sierra Leone in the future noting, “we want to ensure that the children of Sierra Leone get better education. This is the China-Sierra Leone Friendship.”

General Manager GGC said the donation is part of their corporate social responsibility asserting, “the Chinese are doing all they can to help Sierra Leone so let us join them to support the children.

The little contribution you give will go a long way as the children need more items to complete their school and for their own needs. We want to make sure that Maria Primary School becomes one of the best in the country.”

Maria Primary School Head Teacher, Madam Mariama Jalloh, commended GGC and Mariatu Foundation for the assistance as the school is not government assisted.

He informed that Maria Kargbo always comes to their aid since the school was established and called on other well-wishers and philanthropists to support the school lamenting, “We are struggling hard to develop the school and the children.”

Simon Kamara, Chairman, Grafton Polio Association explained that Maria gives stipend to teachers and pays the school fees of the children stressing that disability is not inability.

Currently, pupils of the Maria Polio School are using a private house for classes.

Some of the items donated are corrugated iron zincs to roof the five classroom building, books and pencils. The doors, windows, glass and other items will be donated later according to both groups.
