The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday confirmed that they have asked management of Sierra Rutile/ILLUKA to produce the company’s chief operations officer Shane and liaison officer Obafemi Williams for statement with reference to a matter of larceny/stealing currently under investigation.
Detective Investigator Marcus said Shane and Obafemi Williams are suspects in a matter involving allegation of larceny bailee reported by management of Transcend Company against Sierra Rutile/ILLUKA.
He said the matter was first reported at the Rutile Police Station by one Joseph Nana of Transcend, but was transferred to the CID HQ following refusal by officials of Sierra Rutile to answer to police invitation.
According to him, he said the CEO of Sierra Rutile/ILLUKA, Rob Hattingh has longed made statement denying the allegation against his company, but claimed Shane and Obafemi Williams are yet to answer to the allegations made against them.
He confirmed management of Sierra Rutile/ILLUKA has promised producing the two men to the police latest next week Monday.
It is true sometime in 2017, Transcend reported a matter of alleged larceny as a bailee against management of Sierra Rutile/ILLUKA involving a sub-massive pump machine valuing USD300, 000 formerly in the custody and concession area of management of Sierra Rutile/ILLUKA.
CSP Tommy, Head of Criminal lately told SALONE TIMES that they are basically looking into criminal involvement of officials of Sierra Rutile/ILLUKA as alleged, and if there is sufficient evidence in the cause of their investigation, they will be left without option but charge the matter to court for judicial findings.
The pump machine, according to police’s preliminary discovery, was allegedly converted by management of Sierra Rutile/ILLUKA while in their custody for safe keeping.
Findings are that Transcend Company and Sierra Rutile had a contract for which the former (Transcend) initially took some of its equipments to facilities owned and belonging to management of Sierra Rutile.
That upon expiration of the contract, Transcend asked management of Sierra Rutile to take custody of the equipments until such a time they will be in the position of transporting them to a location of their own.
But complainant Joseph Nana claimed he was disillusioned just when they went to collect their equipment and discovered that parts were sadly removed from the sub-massive pump machine, of course, converted to the benefits of management of Sierra Rutile.
That they immediately reported the matter to the police at Rutile, informing them that management of Sierra Rutile had fraudulently removed parts from their sub-massive pump machine without their knowledge.
Sources say management of Sierra Rutile, at one point, dismantled the machine and transported same to a location unknown and in the process of pairing it, have some of the parts missing.
But lawyer representing Sierra Rutile, Rolland Wright said ‘his client are not against any form of police inquiry, but asked that same is carefully and evenhandedly done.’
He revealed how he personally wrote a letter to Transcend on behalf of management of Sierra Rutile for the removal of all their equipments from facilities of the company (Sierra Rutile).
He claimed that Lawyers of TRANSCEND, in response, wrote to his law firm, informing them of the removal of all equipments of Transcend from facilities of Sierra Rutile.
“It is a surprise to my client that TRANSCEND is now saying that they left a pump machine at the compound of Sierra Rutile when long ago they have confirmed in writing that they already have removed all their equipments there,” Lawyer Rolland Wright said.
Even though the police are yet to obtain statements from the remaining two suspects (Shane and Obafemi Williams), inside police sources say the matter will soon be charged to court as there is evidence pointing at management of Sierra Rutile vis-à-vis the alleged removal of parts from the pump machine in questioned.
