President Ernest Bai Koroma who is also the chairman and leader of the ruling All People Congress (APC) has explained to a local medium the reason for his choice of Samura Kamara.
His undemocratic selection of Samura Kamara as the standard bearer of the ruling party has been condemned by all true democrats all over the world.
In trying to absolve himself of the responsibility of the decision, Koroma explained, “you need someone that will have national and international acceptance. We need to look at effectiveness, someone that is not tainted.”
Koroma furthered that all the other aspirants are qualified but one may want to put a candidate out that will hit the ground running.
The President described that as someone with an impeccable record in the public and private sector and one that has both national and international acceptance.
Political Observers said that the statement of the President about the reason for the selection of Samura Kamara has dented whatever democratic credential the President is claiming to have.
That the President statement has the possibility to disintegrate the party despite efforts to bring disgruntled flagbearers together.
The observers said that the President should not have implied that all the other 27 candidates of the APC are tainted characters because skeletons in the cupboard of his handpicked candidate are beginning to come out.
