It appears as though the former military strong man turned the elected Sierra Leone President, Julius Maada Bio is slowly copying Tanzania’s John Mangufuli.
Similar to John Mangufuli, Bio has stopped excessive government spending, which certainly has seen his government raising 360 Billion Leones in merely three weeks in office.
And now, his head of the Civil Service has put out a press statement demanding all civil servants send in photocopies of original of their academic certificates for cleansing.
“…I am writing to request that all officers in Grade 7 and above submit their curriculum vitae and photocopies of relevant certificates/diplomas/degrees to the Director General, Human Resources Management Office on or before Thursday 17th May 2018,” the release authoritatively mentioned.
Julius F Sandy’s reason for such is that his office is undertaking audit on public servants with the view to deploying officers to Ministries/ Departments/Agencies where they would add considerable value and in the process maximize the efficiency of those institutions.
Meanwhile, it is believed that so many Civil Servants are now scouting for originals of their certificates in fear of losing their jobs or being demoted.
It’s no gainsaying Tanzania’s Mangufuli gained Africa’s and world’s good governance approval following his decision in scrutinizing officials who falsely have acquired lucrative public positions by means of fraud.
This, however, saw over ten thousand Tanzanians removed from office and are currently being investigated for fraud and related offences.
Bio’s unavoidable replication of same has sent a wave of disbelief to, particularly, those who have had their hands in underhanded activities vis-à-vis their acquisition of public positions over the years.
It is still not known whether the recently put out press statement is likely to see government go after fake certificate holders and have them prosecuted for fraud.
