Armed robbers last Thursday terrorized residents of lower Oniel Street close to the Circular Road cemetery and carted away with huge sum of money including properties worth millions of Leones.
According to the victim of the attack, it was around 3:00 a.m that some 15 or so robbers armed with brand new matches broke into their houses, putting them under siege and carting away with their valuables.
Kadiatu’s hands and mouth were tied by the robbers and laid on the floor as they cleared her house, taking away valuable they could lay their hands on.
She later reported that her plasma TV, DVD, mobile phones and her thrift money (Osusu) amounting to Le 2 million were taken away.
The house of another business woman, Nancy was also ransacked by the armed robbers with all her goods carted away.
Mohamed, who rushed out of his room on hearing the noise, was badly injured on the left hand and head by one of the armed robbers.
He is said to be responding to treatment at the Connaught Hospital, where he was rushed to for medical attention.
The armed robbers were said to have come with a vehicle that was parked at the Circular Road cemetery.
A police patrol team reportedly arrived at the scene soon after the robbers had left and promised to intensify their patrol in that part of the community.
Armed robbery is nothing new in the central community, especially at the hill top communities of Leicester Road, Sumaila Town and Mount Auroel which is having little or no security presence at night.
